Week 5 : Distaster

MY LIFE IS SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL!!

Okay, maybe not but it sure feels like it.

Over the past week I have been sick. Then my car gets destroyed by a flood near my house which, I did not know was flood zone but either way. This has caused a lot of stress  in my life that which on top of the subjects that I am taking for school has gotten me in a bad state at which I feel no motivation to do much.

When I go to yoga though the lady has a pretty light nice session but it doesn't feel rewarding as much as when I do yoga in class with my classmates.
This week we had an instructor of Ashtanga yoga come and coach us through a session. This was a very intense session of some hardcore postures that I could not keep up with. The people in my class where really starting to do some cool stuff though. The session was a way to clam my mind.

I have noticed that my class is starting to break down the walls of awkwardness and really start to break into discussion about Yoga, which I find to be comforting during these times of high stress.

In Mark Singletons book  Yoga in the Modern World author Benjamin Richard Smith writes about the Discipline and Authority in Ashtanga Yoga. In this article he goes on to say that "the atmosphere of
yoga schools or śālās shapes both particular practitioners’ experience of yoga practice and the more general “character” students associate with yoga."

I could not agree more while with the community I am apart of in the yoga class seems very shallow in a sense where the level of social interaction is very low. People come in, they do what the lady says, then they leave. When I went to Dr.Greene's practice the people seemed very familiar with her and each other.

I am starting to feel that with some of my classmates and my professor as well. We are all taking at least the slightest interests in each other's well being and when we are in practice together people are not afraid to bare themselves. If I had to define a community it would be my class and the purpose would be to learn about yoga, but it's more then that. We are all learning about ourselves, some presumably  more then others , but in then end .

This is what a community feels like.
